secret tear (a Cyhydedd Fer)

hidden from sight this time of year
often is shed a secret tear
behind closed doors it trickles down
escaping with a worried frown
expectations of this season
can bring pressure beyond reason
as perfect presents must be bought
and rising panic must be fought
it cannot be a perfect day
so let’s see it another way
realise there’s no need for faking
and admit our hearts are aching
enjoy the day for what it is
allow a lull of festive fizz
come together with affection
and embrace our imperfection

This is an attempt at a Cyhydedd Fer, which is a form of Welsh poetry.

    1. Thanks for your kind thoughts. I think a lot of us feel we must hide our sadness. I hope you enjoy your Christmas, whatever shape or form it takes, and if you feel like crying then so be it 🙂

    1. whole?

whole days are filled with secret tears?
      whole poem is terrible?

      or perhaps a quote?

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.”

“You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing, and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life.”

“The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be.”

  1. Hello and thank you for the following – appreciated.
I so understand what you have written and how you have written it.
I had such a hissy fit Christmas Day – yes I blogged about it – sad but true..well the potatoes burnt and the stuffing! Can you imagine. Anyway I digress, we do submit ourselves to perfection especially and more so on the important days, when we should just sit back and say ‘stuff it’ (I am Australian). 🙂
