kiss-shaped

sometimes
you make me smile
so much
that I can’t
make my lips
kiss-shaped
and I stumble
nose-bumping
press my
too-wide mouth
to yours

my place

amid the noise
of family life
I seek a centre
of calm and quiet
sitting here on squashy sofa
I let my eyes drift closed
my face relaxing, shoulders dropped
listening to my thoughts
as other sounds fade away
just me and my breaths
slowly in, slowly out
gently in, gently out
and then you’re there beside me
as if I summoned you there
with your lips on my cheek
and I turn to kiss you
feel the stubble on your jaw
and my smile is building
from deep within
my face beams
bright as a beacon
this is my place
right here with you
