silence

silence
isn’t silent
it’s filled
with
whispers of
yesterday

a lunchtime moment

at lunch
I try to make
my own
little bit
of space
head lost
in a book
mind
elsewhere
amid the noise
and babble
the talking
and chatter
in this crowd
of people
(too many people)
but their voices
creep into
my quiet
and their
presence
can’t be
ignored
time flows
sand falls
my hour is up
I gather
myself
and step out
as the door
swings closed
behind me
I’m enveloped
in silence
soft and gentle
on my ears
a blanket of peace
laid over me
just birds and footsteps
and the sound of my breath

Tessellation

there’s a special kind
of tessellation
of a head upon a chest
with an arm wrapped around
just so

when everything fits
so comfortable and right
as hearts beat together
and breathing gets slower
into sleep

or instead of getting slower
there’s a change in the mood
and a charge in the air
and fingers drift gently
into love

all undercover in the warm dark night
in the silence of the velvet sky
while bright stars sprinkle high above
and here together we lie
